Another Method for Removing Pet Odor from Carpet
Even though enzymatic cleaners are the best choice for anyone who has pets and worries about getting rid of odors, there are other options that can help you get rid of the pet odors in your home.
What you will need
- Air Fresheners
- Baking soda
- Distilled White Vinegar and water mixture (one to one mixture)
- Vacuum Cleaner
- Paper Towels
- First, use the baking soda, spreading it all over the carpet. Allow it to sit overnight, and then vacuum it up the next morning. The odor may be gone at this point, but if it is not, then go on to step two.
- Use distilled white vinegar on the areas of the carpet where the odor is most poignant. The vinegar will eat away at the odor. Allow it to sit for 20 minutes, and then rinse it by using a paper towel and dabbing at the area.
- At this point, most of the smell should be gone. If there is still some of the odor in the air, use some air fresheners. Don’t overdo it, because that can create some horrible odors in and of itself, but use plug-in air fresheners and the spray type. These will both help to keep the air clean and fresh. Check the label before you buy a spray air freshener, too; the ones with baking soda also disinfect the area they are sprayed in.
These are not the only ways to eliminate the pet odor in your carpets, but each of them will definitely help you as you try to get your home back from your stinky pets. They’re man’s best friend, but sometimes they just leave some smells in our carpets that we don’t want to deal with.
