What You Will Need Before You Start
- Clean absorbent white towels
- Club soda
- Clean sponge

Red wine has a habit of making its way onto your clothing, especially when you are wearing your favorite white blouse or sweater. Some of your more durable items of clothing can be popped into the washing machine with a bit of bleach, but how do you get out red wine stains from silk, wool, or even your lacy tops?
Be sure to follow care directions on the clothing tags, and try the following steps if they are compatible with the care for the clothing.
- Immediately blot up fresh stains with paper towels or a white absorbent towel
- Pour club soda onto the stain until the stain has been removed
- Alternatively, you can dab a bit of hydrogen peroxide onto dried stains until the stain has been lifted
Launder as per the care guidelines, making sure not to use high temperatures unless you are certain that the stain has been completely removed.
White wine poured onto the stain, along with table salt, have also shown to be effective at lifting stains and keeping them from spreading and setting.
How Do You Get Out Red Wine Stains From Carpet
What You Will Need Before You Start
- Clean absorbent white towels
- Club soda
- Clean sponge
- Carpet pretreating spray
- Carpet shampooer
Your carpet takes a lot of abuse from your family, your pets, and from spilled food and drinks. While some of the dirt and grime can be vacuumed up or cleaned up easily with a carpet shampooer, you may find red wine stains more challenging.
How do you get out red wine stains then? It is a lot simpler than you may think!
- Blot up freshly spilled wine using paper towels or clean white towels
- Pour club soda onto the stain and blot at it with the clean sponge
- The stain should lift up quickly, and can be absorbed by another clean white towel
If the stain is proving to be exceptionally stubborn, then consider using a carpet pretreating spray and a heavy-duty carpet shampooer to thoroughly clean the stain and the rest of the carpet.
Drink your red wine with confidence now! If a bit spills on the floor, on you, or on your tablecloth, you’ll be able to vanquish that stain without much worry.
