How To Remove Antiperspirant Stains From Silk Clothing
What You Will Need Before You Start
- White absorbent towel
- Clean sponge
- Rubbing alcohol
Silk is a very difficult fabric to work with in terms of removing stains. Silk is not only very delicate to work with but is often listed as best cleaned by a dry cleaner. With this in mind many people prefer to allow their professional cleaners to remove antiperspirant stains from clothing. However, if you would like to attempt it on your own, then you do have a few options to consider.
- Lay your white towel on a flat surface. It is important to use a white towel versus one that has any color to it because you don’t have to worry about color bleeds with white towels.
- Place the stained garment on top of the towel, inside out so that you have direct access to the stain.
- Dab a bit of rubbing alcohol onto your clean sponge and carefully blot at the antiperspirant stain.
- Take care not to rub or use too much force when blotting at the stain, otherwise you run the risk of damaging the delicate silk fibers.
Once the stain has been thoroughly removed, clean it as per the care instructions on the garment tag or allow your professional dry cleaner to get the garment cleaned for you.

- Lay your white towel out on a flat surface, like your kitchen or bathroom counter.
- Place the stained garment on top of the towel and blot at it with a sponge soaked in white household vinegar.
- Allow the vinegar to work into the fibers of the garment, for up to fifteen minutes.
- Fill the sink or a bucket up with cool water and add half a scoop of oxygen bleach powder.
- Allow the garment to soak in the sudsy water for up to thirty minutes and rinse clean.
The stain should be completely removed from the garment, but be sure to verify that it is gone before you dry the garment. You should be able to wash it as per the care instructions on the garment’s tag.
Oxygen bleach, rubbing alcohol, ammonia, and a few white towels or rags can help you to keep your garments free and clear from permanently set antiperspirant stains.
