For hundreds of years people have been using castor oil as a home remedy leaving may to also need to know how to remove castor oil stains. People use castor oil to cure both internal and external problems. This means that many people are putting the castor oil on their skin, leaving a lot of room for staining their clothing with the cure all product.

Remove Castor Oil Stains from Clothing Method 1

What you will need:

  • Pretreatment laundry stain remover

Many people have used Castor oil to treat ailments like dry skin, wrinkles, and even hair loss. To treat all of these conditions people put the castor oil directly on their skin leaving many with unwanted stains on their clothing. Since this is an oil stain you will need to follow the directions carefully as this is a tough stain to remove. Like most other stains it is important to begin treating the castor oil stains as soon as possible.

  1. Before trying to remove the castor oil stain you should make sure that you purchased s great pretreatment stain remover. Since this is an oil stain you should purchase an aerosol stain remover product, as these products work best for grease and oil stains.
  2. Saturate the garment with the pretreatment laundry stain remover. 
  3. Allow the pretreatment stain remover to sit on the castor oil stain for about 1 minute. This should be long enough to allow the product to work its stain fighting magic.
  4. Launder the garment as you normally would. If the stain is fresh enough this is all it should take to rid your clothing of the castor oil stains.
  5. Inspect the clothing. If the stain has been removed you can dry the garment as you normally would. If the stain remains you should move on to method 2.

What you will need:

  • Heavy duty liquid detergent
  • Chlorine bleach or color-safe bleach

Castor oil stains can be stubborn stains to remove. Oil sets into fabric and repels water. This means that you cannot begin treating the stain by simply running the garment under cold water. The longer you allow the castor oil stain to remain on the fabric, before treatment, the more difficult it will be to remove.

  1. These next steps are meant to use only if method one has failed. The first step to removing castor oil stains is to pretreat the stain like in method 1.
  2. If you have a particularly stubborn stain you should also apply the heavy-duty liquid detergent directly to the castor oil stain. Rub the heavy-duty liquid detergent into the fabric with your fingers or by rubbing the fabric together.
  3. Wash the clothing right away as you normally would. For further details on washing you can look at the tag for help. Tip: If your garment is heavily soiled you may want to wash it by itself so that you do not spread the castor oil stains to other clothing.
  4. Inspect the clothing. If the stain has been removed you can dry the garment as you normally would. Remember it is very important to not put the fabric in the dryer unless the stain has been completely removed. The heat from the dryer will allow the stain to further set into the fibers of the fabric making it even more difficult to remove.
  5. If the stain remains you can launder the garment again with chlorine bleach or color-safe bleach.
  6. Inspect the clothing. If the stain remains you can move on to method 3. If the stain has been removed you can dry the garment as you normally would.

What you will need:

  • Chlorine bleach or color-safe bleach
  • Dry-cleaning solvent
  • White Paper towels

You will only need to use this method of removing castor oil from clothing if the other two methods have failed to remove the stain. It is very important that the other methods were used before moving on to method 3. The pretreatment of castor oil stains is very important.

  1. To begin this method of removing castor oil stains from clothing you will need to ensure the other 2 methods were used before moving on to method 3.
  2. First, place a paper towel on the counter or table.
  3. Next, place the front of the stain over the paper towel.
  4. Apply a small amount of dry-cleaning solvent to the back of the stain.
  5. Blot the dry-cleaning solvent into the garment with a clean white paper towel. You should continue to blot the castor oil stain until the dry-cleaning solvent has been absorbed.
  6. Allow the garment to air dry. Remember do not apply heat!
  7. Rinse the garment and then launder it as you normally would. You can add a small amount of chlorine bleach or color-safe bleach to the washing machine if you feel the stain is particularly stubborn.
  8. Inspect the clothing. If the castor oil stain remains you can repeat method 3 until the stain has been removed.
