How to Remove Eye Shadow Stains From Washable Fabrics

What you will need:

  • Pretreatment laundry stain remover
  • Heavy-duty liquid detergent
  • Chlorine bleach or oxygen bleach
  • Dry cleaning Solvent
  • Paper towels

A lot of woman can relate when they hear eye shadow stains. Eye shadow is flaky and easy to spread on your skin, which also makes it easy to spread on your clothing. There are many times when you finish applying your eye shadow and take a look at your clothes one last time and notice an ugly eye shadow stain. Your first reaction might be to brush it away, but you need to fight the urge. Although, this seems like a quick fix you could actually be doing more harm than good.

  1. First, DO NOT rub or brush the eye shadow off of your clothes. This will only allow the stain to further penetrate the fibers.
  2. Next, you will want to completely saturate the stained area with a pretreatment laundry stain remover of your choice. You can find these in any laundry aisle.
  3. Allow the pretreatment stain remover to sit for about 1 minute. You can leave it on for just a little longer if the stain is larger or a little more stubborn.
  4. If you feel you have a stubborn stain you can skip the pretreatment stain remover and jump right to applying a heavy-duty detergent directly to the stain. Ensure you have completely saturated the eye shadow stain.
  5. Rub the heavy-duty liquid detergent into the fabric using your fingers. Ensure you work as much of the detergent into the fabric as you can.
  6. Launder the garment immediately as you normally would.
  7. Inspect the area. If the stain remains you can soak or wash the garment in chlorine bleach or oxygen bleach. You should only use chlorine bleach if the fabric is colorfast.
  8. Launder the garment again.
  9. If the stain still remains you will need to place a paper towel under the eye shadow stain.
  10. Next, apply the dry cleaning solvent to the back of the stain. You can pour the dry-cleaning solvent directly on the stain.
  11. Allow the dry-cleaning solvent to completely dry.
  12. Rinse the garment clean.
  13. launder the clothing as you normally would.
  14. Inspect the stained area. If the stain remains you can continue to repeat steps 9-13.

How to Remove Eye Shadow Stains From the Carpet

What you will need:

  • Clean white cloth
  • Bucket
  • Dry-cleaning solvent
  • Dishwashing liquid

There are times when you are applying your eye shadow and you drop the container holding the makeup right on the carpet. Again your first reaction might be to brush the makeup off of the carpet, but you will need to fight that urge. Rubbing or brushing the eye shadow will only make it worse. To remove the eye shadow stain from the carpet you will need to follow these simple steps.

  1. Blot, not rub, the eye shadow stain with a clean white cloth. When you blot the stain place the cloth directly over the stain and apply pressure. If the eye shadow has not had time to penetrate the fibers of the carpet you should be able to lift the stain with just this step.
  2. If the stain is a little more stubborn you can apply a small amount of dry-cleaning solution to a clean white cloth.
  3. Next, you will need to blot the stain with the dry-cleaning solvent. Continue to do this until the dry-cleaning solvent has been absorbed into the carpet.
  4. Inspect the area. If the stain remains you will need to continue to repeat steps 2-4. Continue to repeat these steps until the stain has been removed. If the stain is not removed with these steps you can move on to step 5.
  5. For this next step you will need to mix a solution of  2 cups warm water and 1 teaspoon of dishwashing liquid. Ensure that you mix the solution well so that the soap has been evenly distributed through the water.
  6. Completely saturate a clean white cloth with the solution.
  7. Using the wet cloth blot the eye shadow stain. Like the dry-cleaning solvent you will need to continue blotting until the liquid has been absorbed into the carpet.
  8. Inspect the stained area. If the stain remains you will need to repeat steps 5-7 until the stain has been removed. If the clean white cloth becomes too soiled during the process it may be necessary to change it.
