Remove Makeup Stains from Polyester

If you use makeup on a regular basis, then you’ve probably accidentally spilled your liquid makeup on something. Liquid makeup, such as foundations, have a lot of oils and chemicals that force the makeup to “stick” to your skin, and those same oils and chemicals also make it difficult to remove makeup stains from polyester. Be careful when you’re trying to remove these stains, or you could end up with stains that won’t ever disappear!

Removing Liquid Makeup Stains from Polyester

Liquid makeup, such as foundation, can really be a pain to get rid of. Not only is it hard to get off of your skin, if you spill any of it on a fabric like polyester, it’s even harder to get rid of. This is because these products can contain minerals, oils, alcohol, and coloring dyes that easily set into whatever they touch. Your concealer may match your skin tone, but it definitely won’t match your clothing. If you do deal with a spill, here’s how you can remove those liquid makeup stains from polyester.

What you will need

  • Bristle brush
  • Stain remover
  • Water
  • Dish soap
  • Sponge
  1. Take the bristle brush and brush over the area. This will help to break up as much of the stain as you can, so you can just brush it off. This won’t work for any of the stain that is deep-set into the clothing, but it will help minimize the amount of stain you have to deal with.
  2. Take your water and your dish soap and make a sudsy mixture. Take this mixture and dab it over the area with the sponge. Allow the solution to sit on the affected area for about 15 to 20 minutes so that it can loosen up the stain.
  3. Allow the area to dry, and then brush over it with the bristle brush again. The stain may be gone at this point; if so, launder as usual. If not, move on to step 4.
  4. Flush the affected area with stain remover. This will help to loosen up the rest of the stain so that you can rinse it out. Do this one to three times, depending on how deep-set the stain is.
  5. Rinse thoroughly with water. Alternate between this step and step 4 until the stain is completely gone.
  6. Launder the item of clothing as you usually would.

Removing Powder Makeup Stains from Polyester

Okay, so now that we know how to remove liquid makeup stains from polyester, you’re probably wondering how you can remove powder stains from your polyester as well? Thankfully, powder stains are much easier to deal with. Sometimes you can brush them off, but if the powder product you’re using is colored in any way, it may need some extra love in order to get rid of the stain.

What you will need:

  • Baking soda and water solution (mixed into a paste)
  • Sponge or soft cloth
  • Water
  • Club soda
  1. Take the baking soda “paste” and apply it over the affected area with the sponge. Leave it to sit for anywhere from a half-hour to 45 minutes.
  2. Rinse the article of clothing thoroughly. Check the affected area to see if the stain has disappeared or not. If so, launder as usual. If not, go on to the next step.
  3. Take the club soda and flush the affected area with this. Make sure that the club soda is fizzing over the stain; that means that it’s working on the stain. Continue to flush until the club soda no longer fizzes.
  4. Flush the entire article of clothing with water. At this point, the stain should be completely gone. If not, dry the article of clothing and then repeat this whole process, starting with step 1.
